2018 Spring Council

Some of you are making travel plans, or saving the calendar dates, for our next Council meeting to be held at St. Paul of the Cross in Pittsburgh. To assist you with the details, here’s what you need to know:

The Council meeting will begin on Monday, May 14 at 2:00 p.m. You are welcome to arrive Sunday evening.

The meeting will conclude with lunch at Noon on Wednesday, May 16.

The Daily Office Revision Team will convene at 1:30 p.m. on May 16, and we should finish our work by Thursday, May 17 in time for dinner. That gives us Friday as a travel day.

Please note that the agenda is barely under development at this time, but Council members’ reports for the Book of Reports will be expected by late April or early May. Stay tuned for more precise information.

2017 Retreat Scottsdale

Forty members of the Order enjoyed the beauty of the Arizona desert and the comfort of the Franciscan Renewal Center during our 2017 Annual Retreat. Our speaker, “Tweedy Sombrero” Navarete, guided us through various life stages, telling personal stories from within her rich Dine’ (Navajo) traditions. She encouraged us to seek our spiritual center, find our own stories, and live into our own traditions without appropriating the traditions of other cultures.
Worship at the retreat was rich and varied under the capable direction of Sr. Alice Kay Lovelace and the leadership of our sisters and brothers. It was refreshing to experience Morning Prayer in an outdoor chapel as we soaked up the desert atmosphere. In addition, we were pleased to observe the Feast of Saint Luke on our patron’s feast day, October 18.
